A form of web television popularized by YouTube, vlogging – short for video blogging – is the new kid on the block in terms of communicating in a meaningful way with your base and potential clients. Used by speakers on a host of subjects, vlogs are meant to be entertaining and informative in a casual way.

In the world of real estate, where blogging has long been used as a means to enhance an agent’s personal branding, vlogging offers an innovative way to up the game: an up-close-and-personal chance to speak naturally and confidently about interesting real estate topics in a way that engages viewers.

Perhaps you’ve just listed a unique property in a most desirable area or you’re on your way to present the keys to a couple you helped to qualify, filming the news as vlog can be a valuable promotional tool.

Vlogging is not for everyone. To be effective, even the most confident and personable speakers must pay attention to body language, tone of voice and messaging, all the while filming themselves in good, natural light in an uncluttered setting. You can start with nothing more than a cell phone and a selfie stick. But because vlogging is much like filming a television commercial, it will take some planning and rehearsal at the least, and perhaps an assistant and/or better equipment if the message is more elaborate.

Agents and coaches who are successfully vlogging say it enables you take people behind the scenes, connect them with the real you, demonstrate what an agent really does to earn a commission and even inspire a call to action.

For example, with more than 3.7 million subscribers and close to 600 uploads, 30-year-old real estate millionaire Graham Stephan tops the list.
