How can real estate professionals choose to be intentionally inclusive? On June 23rd, Real Source University held a panel discussion to explore what the real estate industry is doing to support the LGBTQIA+ community, and how each of us can be allies in our real estate transactions.

The featured panelists, who will shared their insight on how to best serve this clientele were:

  • Tommie Wehrle, Learning Specialist CBA, Co-Chair of Anywhere's REALPRIDE ERG, and National Secretary LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance
  • Scott Griffin, Originating Manager, Guaranteed Rate Affinity

More Work is Needed to Ensure LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity in Real Estate
The government and real estate industry have protections in place to prevent discrimination in housing because of sex, gender identity and sexual orientation (Article 10 of the National Association of REALTORS®’s Code of Ethics prohibits REALTORS® from discriminating based on sexual orientation and gender identity and the federal Fair Housing Act along with state and local laws prohibit discrimination in housing because of sex, gender identity and sexual orientation).Unfortunately, the National Fair Housing Alliance and the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance both report a rise in sex-based housing discrimination against LGBTQ+ homebuyers in the last few years. Join the conversation, and help become a part of the solution.
